Change of Name on Property Title in Tasmania

A change of name on a Tasmanian property title may be required following:

  • marriage;
  • separation or divorce;
  • reverting to a maiden or previous name;
  • a formal change of name; or
  • correction of an error or discrepancy in the name recorded on the Title.

Depending on your circumstances, this may involve either:

  • an Application to Note Marriage;
  • an Application to Revert to Maiden Name; or
  • an Application to Change or Correct Name,

through the Tasmanian Land Titles Office.

Although ownership of the property usually does not change, formal documentation, compliance and verification of identity requirements still apply.

We assist with:

  • preparing the required Land Titles Office documents;
  • advising on and certifying the supporting documents required;
  • completing verification of identity requirements; and
  • lodging the application to update the Title into your current legal name.

If your property is mortgaged, the process will also usually involve obtaining your mortgagee’s consent and arranging for your mortgagee to produce the Certificate of Title to the Land Titles Office to enable registration of the application.
