Duty Exemptions and Concessions in Tasmania

The State Revenue Office offers various transfer duty exemptions and concessions to help eligible buyers reduce or eliminate the duty payable when purchasing property.

What’s Available?

  • First home buyers of established homes duty relief: Provides a full duty exemption for first home buyers of established homes (not newly built homes) up to $750,000.
  • Pensioner duty concession: Provides a 50 per cent reduction of duty for eligible pensioners who sell their former home in Tasmania and downsize by buying another home in Tasmania for up to $600,000.
  • Personal relationship duty exemption: Provides a full duty exemption when a principal place of residence is transferred between partners in a marriage, a significant relationship or caring partners (provided property is held jointly).
