Verification of identity

Why VOI is required

As a law firm, we’re required to take reasonable steps to verify the identity of our clients. VOI is a process to ensure that people involved in a property transaction are who they claim to be. VOI aims to mitigate the risks of identity fraud and unauthorised or fraudulent land transactions. By verifying the identity of parties involved (e.g., buyers and sellers), we can help ensure the integrity of the transaction.

What is VOI?

VOI is the process of checking someone's identity makes sure that a person is real and they are who they say they are. It means that when someone provides proof (like a photo in a passport or driver's license), it matches the person you're talking to.

How to complete remote VOI via InfoTrackID

For many of our clients, balancing work and family makes visiting our office during regular business hours impossible. That's why we offer a remote identity verification system through InfoTrackID.

Described as a "digital and secure VOI solution accessible anytime, anywhere," InfoTrackID lets you easily and securely upload your identity documents from the convenience of your mobile or computer. At the onset of your matter, we'll provide you with a link to this user-friendly platform. Once you've submitted your documents, our team will verify your identity.

Documents you will need to complete remote VOI via InfoTrackID

Most of our clients complete VOI using the following documents:

  • Passport + drivers licence; or
  • Drivers licence + birth certificate + Medicare card.

For a full list of other acceptable documents click here.

Tip: if you're uploading a copy of a Tasmanian drivers licence, put it on a dark surface when you take the photo.
